What people say
"As newcomers to Lynchmere and having a little boy and dog to entertain we consider ourselves so lucky to have the common on our doorstep. It has given us countless hours of happy times and been the most perfect natural play area we could imagine. From muddy puddles to splash in, to old trees to climb on, to hills to race down to views to enjoy with a picnic, it couldn’t be bettered! Having seen it through all of the seasons, each month has offered different treats and surprises. There’s seem to be barely a week without one gorgeous flower or another blooming and most of the time they’re in absolute abundance. The common has given our son adventure, us pure natural beauty and the whole family peace and space when we’ve needed it. It’s a very special place and we treasure it."
Bex in Lynchmere "We love walking and taking the dog across all of the Lynchmere Society land, mostly on Marley, since we live so close, but this has become particularly important to us during the covid pandemic. Whilst we were all experiencing the struggles of lockdown, home schooling and work at such a challenging time, enjoying Lynchmere, as a family, has been our respite and we’re so grateful to all those who care for the common and make it the wonderful, tranquil place that it is to visit and treasure. It’s been a saving grace!"
Richard "Many thanks for your kind card and membership confirmation for my mother. She was delighted to receive your letter and the info this morning, and has already signed up for the Cow Club!
Mum is looking forward to seeing you out on the common one day (when the sun comes out!). As you say, it has become so important in many people’s lives during this never-ending lockdown!" Paul "I am still very attached to the area, having walked and jogged through its natural beauty for some forty odd years, and when we visit U.K. we still always drop into St. Peter’s and admire the view over the fields and woods from the memorial wall."

"The common has given me so much pleasure i have walked some part of it every day since lockdown began, so I really wanted to join and yes volunteer to give something back, so yes please add me to the list for September."
Vikki "I had a lovely surprise when I walked on Lynchmere Little Common this afternoon. There were cattle, a really lovely sight."
Craig "Camelsdale School are financial supporters of the Lynchmere Society as well as supporting it by enjoying the Common - in particular with our forest school programme, while many of our families enjoy Marley Common for pleasure also. Our ‘wilder’ spaces in our locality have been a true saviour to so many – we hear this from so many pupils and families we speak to on a personal level. I am sure that many people who might never have ventured very far, are benefitting immensely from the spaces we have locally. We are truly lucky to be here at this challenging time and have the wonderful space around us. Thank you"
Sarah Palmer, Headteacher - Camelsdale School "Thank you for your interesting newsletter and for all you do to keep the commons in such good shape. They are very much needed at the current time. All good wishes."
