How we built it

Cladding the Pole Barn

Firstly, the framework was erected. Here is a step by step visual guide, watching Colin and his team construct the pole barns structure. Then came an enormous effort from all our amazing volunteers. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU.

The Lynchmere Society decided to build a traditional pole barn in Roundabouts Field to store hay and equipment. The frame was built mid February, and the roof went on in March. The sides were made from larch, harvested from Stoney Field, sawn and attached to the barn by volunteers.

A local effort...

Harvesting the trees

A considerable number of trunks were transported to Bunchfield for planking. This needed heavy lifting equipment. Several volunteers dedicated days to making cladding.

Planking

We used a small saw-mill to cut ¾ inch boards for the barn walls. We had a few machine operators and a team of marvellous volunteers helped lifting and shifting.

Volunteers:

  • Debarked trunks
  • Rolled logs onto mill
  • Stacked and load planks
  • Transported and unload sawn timber at the Barn site

Cladding

Anyone who could use a hammer came to help fix the boards to the barn. We need to overlap vertical boards and then nail into place.

We‘re not far off finishing... a few tasks remain... watch this space
